Information about Recliner Chairs

As we all get older, it sometimes becomes more difficult for us to move around. Even something as simple as getting up from a chair may become difficult, especially if you have bad arthritis or limited mobility.

With a riser reclining chair, the difficulty associated with getting in and out of a chair can be greatly reduced, or even eliminated. This is because the riser chair does what your muscles and joints would normally do. When getting out of a normal chair, you use your hips and your abdominal muscles to bring your torso forward. Then you use your leg muscles and your knees to lift yourself out of your chair. Your feet and ankles provide balance as you begin to stand up from the chair.

Riser reclining chairs will put you in an almost vertical position, so that you don't have to put as much stress on your knees and joints in order to get out of the chair. With the simple press of a button, your lift chair will slowly push your body forwards and upwards so that you can literally walk right out of your chair.

Things to consider before buying a recliner chair

Riser reclining chairs can greatly improve the quality of life for people suffering from mobility problems. A Riser / Recliner chair can look and feel like a normal reclining chair. But a lift chair makes it easier for a less- able person to get in and out of the chair by gently rising into a more comfortable position. They also come with a variety of features such as warming heat and massage as mentioned above. Do you want one with a single motor this type will lift the footrest at the same time the backrest will recline. Or do you prefer one with a dual motor that the footrest and the backrest can be moved independently?

With all the different types of chairs available, it is important that you get the right  one  for you. You should consider some of the aspects below:

Wall-hugger Single Motor Chair
A mechanism that lifts and reclines using 1 motor. This mechanism only requires only 4-5” of clearance behind the chair to recline. Thus helpful when space is limited.

Dual Motor Rise and Recline Chair
This is a mechanism that operates using 2 motors. One motor operates the footrest of the chair and the other motor operates the back. This means that the footrest and back are operated independently enabling foot up and back up positioning if required.

2-Way Tilt in Space
The 2-way mechanism ensures a smooth movement going into recline and lift. The angle of the back and seat during these movements remain constant, hence this chair is ideal if you have a back problem and do not wish for the position of your back to change.

Trio-Lift
2-way tilt-in-space, vertical lift and combination single motor action for ease of transfer and carer contact.

Interlift Chair
The newest design of relining chair is the  Interlift  it has the lifting mechanism encased and the footrest has been designed to reduce the risk of being trapped.

Recline Only Chair
A mechanism that has a wall-hugger action recline and no lift. The motor is restricted to prevent it lifting.

Lift Only Chair
A mechanism that has a restricted motor that creates a lift only facility and not recline.

Manual Chair
A mechanism that has a wall-hugging action recline. Manually operated by a handle, which can be either situated on the left or right hand side of the chair.

3-way Rise and Recline Chair
A single motor chair that operates the back and leg rest together. This mechanism requires 12" - 15" behind the chair to recline. So this chair is more suited to a spacious room.
